For many years, R.I.
Districts #1870 and #1900 have granted scholarships to
Georgians, to study a year in Germany. We are pleased that they are
repeating this offer for the scholastic year 2009-2010. Below are
the details of this offer as described by the Districts in Germany.
"As to our offer of a scholarship to two students from your Districts, we
think that your students should have the same qualifications as you expect
from a German candidate in Georgia but with one exception. The average
age of Germany students is about 2 years older than at a college in your
country. We believe that an American student should come here for
advanced studies, having finished college with a bachelor or even a
master’s degree. Marital status must be single.
"The Scholarship will pay tuition, fees and will provide the student with
enough money to rent a room, to pay for meals, books, daily necessities,
etc. German Universities do not have campuses (just a few student hotels
and the "mensa" (for meals) so that a student is far more left to his own
energy and imagination as to how to conduct his/her studies and spare time
than in your country. However, Rotarians who are professors at the
University of Munster or Bochum, will gladly give advice to the student in
every respect. The student must pay his travel costs from the USA to
Germany and back."
"The student must have insurance against accidents and sickness at his/her
university. Additional costs not covered by this insurance are to be
borne by the student."
“The German academic year runs from September until July. We should be in
possession of your applications as soon as possible in order to have a
little time for further negotiations.”
“In order to get the access to studies in Germany, the students must pass
a test for the German language. Prospective applicants undergo an
examination in the USA at the ‘Goethe Institut’ in Atlanta. The
Universities request the student to furnish a test in German language –
‘Zentrale Mittelstufenprue-fung’ (ZMP). The address is:
German Cultural Center - Goethe-Institut
Colony Square
Plaza Level, Suite 561
1197 Peachtree Street, NE
Atlanta, GA 30361-2401
404/892-2388 – Language Dept. 892-2316
There are two alternative tests:
1. Grading

2.

‘good’.”
